Examples of Therapy Modalities Used at Buckley Therapy and Consulting services:
What is EMDR?
EMDR( Eye Movement Densentization and Reprocessing), as with most therapy approaches, focuses on the individual’s present concerns. The EMDR approach believes past emotionally-charged experiences are overly influencing your present emotions, sensations, and thoughts about yourself. As an example: “Do you ever feel worthless although you know you are a worthwhile person?”
EMDR processing helps you break through the emotional blocks that are keeping you from living an adaptive, emotionally healthy life.
EMDR uses rapid sets of eye movements to help you update disturbing experiences, much life what occurs when we sleep. During sleep, we alternate between regular sleep and REM (rapid eye movement). This sleep pattern helps you process things that are troubling you.
EMDR replicates this sleep pattern by alternating between sets od eye movements and brief reports about what you are noticing. This alternating process helps you update your memories to a healthier present perspective.
What is ACT?
A psychological model that emphasized accepting thoughts and feelings rather than fighting them, while committing to actions aligned with one’s values to live a rich a meaningful life.
Core Principles:
Acceptance: Acknowledging and allowing thoughts and feeling, rather than trying to control or suppress them.
Commitment: Taking action based on values, even when facing difficult emotions or thoughts.
Mindfulness: Being present and aware of thoughts and feelings without judgement.
Values: Identifying what is truly important in life.
Psychological Flexibility: The ability to adapt to changing circumstances and challenges by being open to new experiences and actions.
What is CBT?
CBT theory suggests that our thought, emotions, body sensations, and behavior are all connected, and that what we think and do affects the way we feel.
What is Motivational Interviewing?
Is a counseling style for effecting behavior change, and for helping clients explore and resolve ambivalence by evoking their personal motivations for change (Miller & Rollnick).
